At a committee meeting held on 19 April 1967 it was decided the Club should hold a 1 mile track championship race. In view of the busy track fixture list that summer the only available date was 12 August. In the afternoon of that day a Great Britain v USA match was being held at the White City and a number of club members would be heading there. The race was therefore arranged for the morning and despite murmurings that runners would not be keen to race so early in the day the finishing times particularly in the “A” race were of a high standard.
The club championship was not held in 1970 or 1975.
From the 1980’s onwards the club is indebted to other clubs within the Surrey County Athletic Association area being so generous in finding time to include our races in their own busy meetings. Any runner attending those meetings wishing to take part in a 1 mile race was, of course, allowed to run. The results include only Lauriston Runners Club members or those having a close association with the club.
